A French protection challenge seeks to deceive fight plane or air protection methods via drone swarms.

Thales and the College of Bordeaux conceptualized the “AutonomouS SYstem for Decoying utilizing Uav Swarms” (ASSYDUS) challenge below the aegis of the Protection Innovation Company.

It hypothesizes a swarm of small aerial drones whose collective radar cross part (RCS) resembles a fighter jet.

“The originality of the precept adopted is to place the drones of a swarm autonomously to be able to acquire an RCS, measured by the radar of the ground-to-air system, which is equal to that of a fight plane, and to arrange drones (a swarm) administration in order to lure the radar which might measure the goal’s Doppler,” the challenge description reads.

The swarm’s autonomous functionality is essential in implementing the deception and thus requires drones that might autonomously place themselves in such a method that will increase their RCS.
