GM Protection Awarded Contract for Tactical Vitality Storage Unit Prototype

The US Division of Protection has awarded GM Protection a contract to prototype an power storage unit for the Protection Innovation Unit (DIU).

The settlement helps the DIU’s Secure Tactical Expeditionary Electrical Energy (STEEP) program to supply power administration options and tactical microgrids in harsh environments.

By means of STEEP, US protection can scale back logistical challenges and reliance on fossil fuels as their important power supply.

GM Protection will leverage its proprietary Ultium Platform electrical car propulsion system to offer a “scalable and adaptable” power storage unit supporting US warfighters’ tactical power necessities.

STEEP Vitality Storage Answer

In keeping with GM Protection, the STEEP prototype answer permits environment friendly and uninterrupted energy for mission-critical belongings, together with radar, command and management, and weapons programs in austere and distant places that lack steady energy grids.

The power storage system additionally gives “clever” army microgrid capabilities that interoperate with stationary and cellular battery electrical energy, hydrogen-powered mills, and current fuel-powered mills for sustainable energy distribution and administration.

“This contract award demonstrates our capability to leverage superior industrial applied sciences and investments from our guardian firm, GM, to scale back warfighter gas consumption, and decrease acoustic and thermal signatures, whereas offering environment friendly power on the tactical edge,” GM Protection President Steve duMont said.

“We’re proud to win one other contract award with DIU, whose mission to speed up the adoption of business know-how throughout the US army aligns with our efforts to transition world protection and authorities clients to a extra electrical, autonomous and linked future.”

Supporting DIU, US Marine Corps

GM Protection’s prototyping contract follows a DIU award in October 2022 looking for a battery prototype based mostly on the Ultium Platform for a separate energy-related program.

The Jumpstart for Superior Batter Standardization (JABS) venture expanded the combination of high-voltage battery packs for its Multi-Mission and Logistics car merchandise.

The present STEEP program will construct on findings collected from JABS as GM Protection continues to spend money on battery electrical capabilities supporting DIU packages in addition to future US Marine Corps tasks.
