The US State Division has authorised the sale of over 500 StormBreaker air-to-ground munitions to Norway.
The approval to promote 580 GBU-53/B Small Diameter Bombs-Increment II (SDB-II) is along with an earlier approval of 20 SDB-II for an estimated $18.9 million.
The sale’s whole estimated value is $293 million.
Enhances F-35A Fleet’s Capabilities
The good munition sale for Norway’s F-35A fleet will bolster the nation’s air and protection capabilities, the Protection Safety Cooperation Company wrote in a press release.
“We see StormBreaker as an integral part in attaining the total operational functionality of our F-35 fleet,” Brig. Gen. Sigurd Fongen stated final 12 months.
“The weapon will convey important functionality towards stationary and transferring targets at stand-off ranges, additional enhancing the Norwegian Air Pressure’s potential to take care of nationwide and regional safety alongside our allies,” the Norwegian Defence Workers F-35 venture workplace head added.
A ‘Sensible’ Bomb
The 200-lb (91-kg) munition’s tri-mode seeker permits it “to see by means of fog, smoke, and rain to glide over 45 miles (72 km) and strike at a set or transferring goal on land or at sea,” in accordance with Raytheon.
The protection contractor additional claims that the munition, consisting of “form cost jets, fragmentation, and blast cost results,” can destroy a tank.
